Vulnerable workers present a challenge in any workplace. Orientation programs must be comprehensive to ensure that new, young workers starting their first jobs are provided proper training that includes their rights and responsibilities under the OHSA. Workers new to Ontario, may not speak English as their first language. Orientation for this group needs to take this into account. Finally, you may have an experienced worker who is returning after a long absence, perhaps because of a prior injury. These workers, while needing to be re-oriented to their jobs and the workplace, may also have a requirement for modified work to ease their transition to full-time employment.
