Certification Training for JHSC Members – It’s the Law!
Manufacturing, Office and Service Sectors
Did you know that if your workplace has 20 or more employees, you are required to have a joint health and safety committee with at least 2 members specially trained and certified in health and safety?
What’s Certification Training?
Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) requires workplaces with 20 or more regularly employed workers to have a joint health and safety committee (JHSC). At least one worker member and one management member of the JHSC must be certified. Certification involves training in health and safety law, as well as the identification, assessment, and control of hazards.
Certification training is a two-part process:
Part One – participants learn about health and safety basics and their duties under the OHSA.
Part Two – participants learn how to recognize, assess and control hazards specific to their workplace.
