WSN regrets to inform its clients a 47-year-old miner was fatally injured at Vale’s Coleman Mine in Sudbury, Ontario. The fatal incident took place on January 29, 2012.
According to a company release, the man was working underground on the 4,215-foot level of Vale's Coleman Mine when material from a development heading was displaced.
The miner’s name has not yet been released.
Vale has temporarily suspended operations at all of its mines in Sudbury, Ontario. The incident is being investigated by the Greater Sudbury Police Services, the Ontario Ministry of Labour and representatives of Vale and the United Steelworkers Local 6500.
