Northern Ontario Safety Groups joining forces
July 19, 2011
Clients in northern Ontario have access to more resources and an expanded network this year, thanks to an initiative that draws together the Safety Group programs in different northern communities.
Safety Groups is a program administered by the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board, but sponsored and organized by health and safety associations and other organizations. Companies which join a safety group attend mandatory meetings and work through goals they set to improve their own health and safety programs. In return they are eligible to receive a potential rebate from the WSIB.
The four health and safety associations, including Workplace Safety North, run safety groups in various northern communities. This year, the associations agreed to hold joint safety group meetings in five communities (Thunder Bay, Timmins, Sault Ste. Marie, Sudbury and North Bay). In addition to reducing duplication within these communities, the initiative allows member companies to share ideas and experiences with a wider range of firms in their region. They also have more resources and expertise at their fingertips.
Companies can register to join WSN’s safety group – registrations for 2012 are accepted until December 31. For more information, visit our web site or contact Rose Bedard, Safety Group Administrator, at 1-888-730-7821 ext. 291 or rosebedard@workplacesafetynorth.ca.
