Workplace Violence Prevention Program (half day)

Attend this program to learn how to develop a workplace prevention program for your workplace that satisfies the recent amendments to the OHS Act.

Workplace Violence Prevention Programs: Implementing the Program in your Organization (full day workshop) (healthcare)

Book 1 in the series guides an organization's workplace violence program leader and the multidisciplinary committee in the development of a prevention program that addresses all forms of workplace violence with the exception of client aggression (covered in Book 4). It suggests that, to ensure success, the committee should include representation from senior management, human resources, educators, and all staff levels, plus the JHSC and any unions.

Workplace Violence Prevention Programs: Developing Crisis Prevention and Communication Strategies (half day workshop) (healthcare)

Designed to provide the skills necessary to recognize and respond to the various stages of violence, Book 2 is of most benefit to front-line staff and management. This session focuses on effective communication strategies and addresses issues such as how to support staff following violent incidents.

Workplace Violence Prevention Programs: Developing Human Resources Strategies for Managing Workplace Violence (half day workshop) (healthcare)

The title of Book 3 defines its target audience - human resource professionals. Senior management may also benefit from important topics such as the prevention of violence among employees, strategies for dealing with all forms of harassment, domestic violence, threats and weapons in the workplace. Book3 also outlines hiring and termination best practices.

Workplace Violence Prevention Programs: Preventing Client Aggression Through Gentle Persuasive Approaches™ (full day workshop) (healthcare)

Created by the Continuing Gerontological Education Cooperative, the Gentle Persuasive Approach is grounded in the principle of person-centered care for dementia patients. Book 4 was developed to provide the program infrastructure necessary to support the GPA curriculum. This program was designed to complement existing resident care strategies and systems. It integrates the MoHLTC Resident Care Standards, the College of Nurses of Ontario standards and practice guidelines, and Ontario health and safety legislation. This program has been developed for the program lead and the multidisciplinary committee responsible for preventing client aggression. Staff who have received P.I.E.C.E.S. and U-First! training may also benefit from this program.

Dealing with a Difficult or Angry Person (half day)

This workshop will assist organizations and individuals in dealing with difficult, disruptive or angry people in the workplace. As many workplaces are open to the public, staff must know how to effectively diffuse difficult situations and prevent a violent incident from occurring with individuals who could include clients, visitors and fellow employees.

Workplace Bullying and Domestic Violence (half day)

Based on the booklets for Workplace Bullying and Domestic Violence, participants learn about the prevalence of these forms of violence, how to recognize them and minimize their effect in the workplace.
