Occupational Illness

Resulting from exposure in the workplace, an occupational illness may be short term, or it might result in a fatality. These training courses will help you to develop good control programs to protect the people in your workplace. Asbestos (Education)

Workers Asbestos Workshop identifies the hazards relating to Type 1 and 2 Asbestos abatement.

Confined Space 

Confined Space Awareness Seminar (1 day)

Upon completion of this classroom program, the participant will be able to recognize confined spaces, describe hazards found in these spaces and outline the controls for these hazards. In addition, the legislation that applies to confined space entry is reviewed and discussed.

Confined Space Entry Awareness (2 days)

In addition to the information covered in the awareness program above, this training includes a practical confined space entry session, as well as information on fall prevention and traffic protection. Training it to the Industrial Regulation Standards and upon completion of the program, participants will be able to do confined space vertical entry and retrieval.

Indoor Air Quality 

Indoor Air Quality (1/2 day)

This program is designed to teach participants to recognize the symptoms and sources of common indoor air quality problems and develop a plan of action to address the problem.

Beat the Heat (1/2 day)

In a brisk, informative half day session, participants will learn: what is heat stress; who is at risk; how to recognize symptoms; types of heat-related disorders; relevant sections of the Occupational Health and Safety Act; applicable legislation; how components of your IRS apply; prevention measures; how to understand Weather Warning Systems; planning to protect clients and staff.

Infection Prevention and Control

Infection Control for Caregivers (1/2 day)

Designed to provide participants with basic information about infection control, including modes of transmission, routine practices, correct hand washing technique, and appropriate use of personal protective equipment. The course will include the use of videos, exercises and activities to assist the participants with learning.

Be Pandemic Prepared: Protecting Our Community and Health Care Staff (1/2 day)

After SARS and 9/11, health care organizations face greater challenges to prepare for emergencies. An emergency management plan considers many aspects of an organization's day-to-day operation. If similar to the Spanish Flu of 1918-19, the next pandemic targets those between the ages of 20 to 40 years of age, employers could see an absentee rate of 35 percent or higher. Staff may be ill themselves or be absent caring or grieving for loved ones. Based on Health and Safety in Emergency Management: A Guide for the Protection of Community and Health Care Staff, this education session will explore those elements that employers should consider in pandemic planning for the protection of your most valuable resource - your staff.

Respiratory Fit Testing

Respiratory Protection Train-the-Fit Tester – (half day)

This half day workshop (approximately 3.5 hours) will train participants on the requirements within a respiratory protection program, including the education, knowledge, and skills required to conduct their own qualitative fit testing (QLFT) as outlined the the CSA Standard Z94.4-02. 

WHMIS

WHMIS Training Seminar (1/2 day)

Occupational diseases account for over half of all occupational fatalities in Ontario. Occupational disease and injury from chemicals can be prevented. Upon completion of this course participants will be able list chemical hazards that may be found in their workplace, describe the health hazards of these chemicals and explain how they may be identified and evaluated using the WHMIS system of labels and Material Safety Data Sheets. WHMIS Train-the-Trainer (2 days)

Implementing a WHMIS Program in Healthcare (1/2 day)

Designed to assist employers, managers and staff to create a safer working environment by enhancing their understanding of individual roles and responsibilities and the practices and procedures needed to implement the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) regulation. The course will include the use of videos, exercises and activities to assist the participants with learning. By the end of the day, participants will have the knowledge to implement a successful WHMIS program at their organization.
